In 1940, the National Women's Teachers College was established, consisting of the Department of Physical Chemistry, which set up the Electromagnetics and Radiology Course Group and the course "Electromagnetics and Radiology"
In 1946, the National Women's Teachers College adjusted the curriculum, and split the "Electromagnetics and Radiology", from which "Radiology" was separated and became an independent course.
In August 1950, the Southwest Normal University was established, which set up the Physics Department of the Department of Physics and Chemistry. Professor Xie Lihui, a famous electronic scientist, educator and pioneer of radar research in China, was transferred from Chongqing University and was responsible for the preparatory work, and served as the first dean. He had worked here for 8 years.
On November 12, 1952, the Department of Physics and a radio course group was established.
In August 1953, the Physics Departments of three normal colleges in Sichuan, Guizhou and Yunnan merged into the Department of Physics of Southwest Normal University.
In 1960, the Department of Physics established a radio teaching and research section.
From 1960 to 1961, the Department of Physics opened the major of radio physics.
From 1966 to 1973, due to the "Cultural Revolution", the enrollment stopped for 7 years.
In 1984, the University of the Night was opened to enroll three-year college students majoring in electronic technology.
In 1987, the department started to enroll the first applied physics undergraduate students.
In 1993, the applied physics major was renamed as Information Engineering.
In 1994, the information and engineering major enrolled the first undergraduate students.
In October 1996, the Department of Electronic Information Engineering was established, which was still run by the same team of the School of Physical Science and Technology. The information engineering profession was renamed Electronic and Information Engineering.
In May 2000, Professor Liu Guangyuan received the special fund of the backbone teachers of colleges and universities sponsored by the Ministry of Education.
In June 2003, the school abolished the system of the Department of Physics, the Department of Electronics and Information Engineering, and established the School of Physics and the School of Electronic Information Engineering.
In September 2003, signal and information processing was authorized to offer master's degree.
In 2003, the application that the college set up the communications engineering program was approved and it started to enroll students in 2004.
In July 2005, after the establishment of Southwest University, the School of Physics was renamed as the School of Physical Science and Technology, and the School of Electronic and Information Engineering was renamed as the School of Electronic Information Engineering of Southwest University. The two institutes still run together.
In 2006, the first professional adjustment after the establishment of Southwest University performed. Electronic and information engineering program and professional teachers, which belonged to School of Engineering and Technology of the former Southwest Agricultural University opened in 2002, merged into the School of Electronic Information Engineering.
In September 2010, the college successfully applied for the master's degree in electronics and communication engineering.
In September 2011, Professor Liu Guangyuan was approved by the Ministry of Education for major scientific and technological research projects, which achieved the zero breakthroughs in such projects in Southwest University.
In August 2012, the school successfully introduced the Professor Liao Xiaofeng Team, including Professor Liao Xiaofeng, Professor Li Chuandong sponsored by the “New Century Talent Support Program” of the Ministry of Education, Professor Yang Xiaofan and Professor Guo Songtao.
In September 2012, the school decided to set up an independent school of electronic information engineering. At the same time, it decided to include the information engineering major founded by the School of Computer and Information Science in 2012 (the original name was information science and technology major. In the new majors’ catalogue of higher education institutions issued by the Ministry of Education in September 2012, the original information engineering, information science and technology and information physics engineering merged into the information engineering major.) and the electronic science and technology major founded by the Engineering and Technology College established in 2004.
The college was formally established on December 18, 2012. The first party secretary of the college was Bi Junming, and the dean was Professor Liao Xiaofeng.
In October 2012, the college was approved to authorize the second-level discipline of intelligence and information processing to offer the doctoral degree.
In March 2013, the college moved into the new office and operated independently in a brand new way.
In March 2013, Professor Li Chuandong was appraised as the “Bayu Scholar” in Chongqing.
In August 2013, Professor Liao Xiaofeng was selected as the “Technology Innovation Leadership Training Program” in Chongqing.
In September 2013, the college was approved of 5 projects sponsored by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
In September 2013, the college won several prizes in National Electronic Design Competition including 4 first prizes in Chongqing and 3 second prizes in China.
In October 2013, Professor Duan Shukai was successfully selected into the “New Century Talent Support Program” sponsored by the Ministry of Education.
